The card set "Schoolyard Habitat“ provides many suggestions, tips, examples and arguments for good schoolyards.

A young person spends on average roughly 20,000 hours at school, a large part of them in the schoolyard. So it’s definitely worth the effort to transform bleak yards into vital habitats that are not only ideal sites for education on ecology, but are also sustainable, inclusive and prepared for climate change.

The educational advice centre "Grün macht Schule" has 35 years of experience in redesigning schoolyards. This card set is designed to give an overview of the most important criteria for an attractive and popular schoolyard.

The Ecological, child-friendly design of schoolyards and kindergarten
 

The brochure "The Ecological, child-friendly design of schoolyards and kindergarten" by "Grün macht Schule" was published in 2014 and provides many suggestions and tips for near-natural schoolyards.

The near-natural schoolyard serves as a classroom, experience area and kitchen garden (e.g. for herbs, leaves). It is an important part of holistic education and contributes significantly to the green cityscape. "Grün macht Schule" advises how to make a big difference with just a few resources. We give recommendations for imaginative, child-friendly schoolyard and children's garden design .

In addition, we highlight what other schools and daycare centers have accomplished with much joy, commitment and pride.

We hope to encourage everyone involved to simply get started.
